Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Pempelfort

Pempelfort's nearest dedicated BJJ academy is Imperial Ground, one U-Bahn stop north in Derendorf — a 4-minute U71/U72 ride or a 15-minute walk through the Nordpark. Foundation Gi + No-Gi for adults, a women's-only program, Alliance-lineage coaching in English, German, and Portuguese.

Where we are

One stop north of where you live

Imperial Ground · Römerstraße 6, 40476 Düsseldorf-Derendorf. If you live anywhere in Pempelfort — Nordstraße, Duisburger Straße, Kaiserstraße, the Hofgarten edge — you're already inside our catchment area. We sit one U-Bahn stop north of Nordstraße at Schloss Jägerhof, with the entrance through the rear courtyard (Hinterhof), upper floor on the right (OG rechts).

The space has roughly 120 m² of mat, four sanitary rooms, and two changing rooms with showers. Bring flip-flops for walking off the mat — it's a Brazilian-jiu-jitsu hygiene norm.

Getting here

From Pempelfort, all routes are short

  • U-Bahn: U71 / U72 / U73 northbound. From Nordstraße it's one stop to Schloss Jägerhof, then 5 min walk. Roughly 8 min door-to-mat.
  • Walking: from the heart of Pempelfort (Hofgarten, Nordstraße shops, Düsseltaler Straße), 12–18 min via Münsterstraße. The Nordpark cycle path is a flatter alternative if you're coming from the eastern half of the district.
  • Cycling: ~7 min from most addresses in Pempelfort. Covered bike parking at the building entrance.
  • From Hofgartenufer / FOM Hochschule: 18 min walk or 9 min on the U71.
  • Driving: Anwohner-Parkzone D in Derendorf. Free after 21:00 and on Sundays. Most Pempelforter members don't bother with the car for an evening class.
Why Pempelfort

What our Pempelfort members tend to look like

Pempelfort is one of Düsseldorf's most lived-in residential districts — quieter than the Altstadt, denser than Derendorf, and the natural home of the city's "young professional + young family" crowd. Hochschule Düsseldorf's medical faculty pulls students; the Hofgarten + Nordpark green strip pulls runners and cyclists; Nordstraße's café and restaurant strip is the de-facto third place after work. Imperial Ground's Pempelforter members are mostly people who already live within a 10-minute commute and want a community-oriented martial-art that doesn't feel like a hardcore fight gym.

The women's-only class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 18:00 is consistently popular with Pempelforter members coming straight from work — the U-Bahn is door-to-door for most of them.

FAQ — Pempelfort-specific

Common questions from people on this side of the city

Is there a BJJ academy inside Pempelfort itself?

Not as a dedicated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu space at the time of writing (May 2026). Pempelfort has several general fitness studios and a couple of mixed martial-arts gyms that run BJJ as a side program; if you want a community structured around BJJ first — published curriculum, transparent belt-promotion criteria, women-led classes, kids program in development — Imperial Ground in neighbouring Derendorf is one stop away.

How do I get there after work without going home first?

Most Pempelforter members pack a small bag in the morning. Foundation Gi at 19:00 has a buffer for U-Bahn from any office in the Stadtmitte / Hofgartenufer corridor; the trains run every 10 minutes on weekday evenings.

Can I bike from Pempelfort and store the bike safely?

Yes. The Münsterstraße cycle path runs straight north into Derendorf. Covered bike parking at the building entrance — bring a lock; the courtyard isn't private.

I live near the Hofgarten and want to walk — is it worth it?

It's a 15–20 minute walk through the Nordpark, which is one of the nicer north-of-Hofgarten green corridors. Plenty of Pempelforter members walk in summer and take the U-Bahn in winter.

Does the schedule work for parents picking up from Pempelfort schools?

Foundation Gi at 19:00 is the most parent-compatible adult slot. The kids program is in development; we'll surface a Pempelfort-specific schedule when it launches.
